Who Can Get Vision Insurance

Vision insurance works differently for children and adults.

Vision Insurance for Children

If your child is under 19 and enrolled in your plan through Covered California, vision insurance is already included. You don’t need to buy a separate plan. Deductibles do not apply to children's vision benefits.

What children's vision insurance includes:

• Eye exams
• One pair of glasses per year, or contact lenses instead

This does not include the minimum coverage plan.

Vision Insurance for Adults

Adult vision care is not included in health plans through Covered California. To get vision insurance, you can buy a separate plan directly from one of our selected vision insurance companies.

The vision insurance company handles enrollment, billing and plan questions — not Covered California.

Benefits vary by vision insurance company and plan selected.
