Renew Your Plan

Renewal happens each year before open enrollment. Health plans, prices and your situation can change — renewal is your chance to make sure your current plan still works for you, or switch to something different for next year.

When You Can Renew

Renewal opens in October. When it's time, Covered California will send you a notice with what you need to know and next steps — or you'll see a message when you sign in to your account.

What to Review

Taking a few minutes to review your information helps make sure you get the right plan and the right amount of financial help.

  • Household and Contact Information

    • Confirm that your address, phone number and email are up to date.
    • Add anyone who joined your household.
    • Remove anyone who moved out or is no longer a dependent.

    Good to know

Changes to your household may affect your eligibility and financial help.

  • Income and Financial Help

Update your estimated yearly income to see if your:

    • Financial help changed
    • Program eligibility changed

    Good to know

Income changes may affect your program eligibility, monthly premium or plan options.

  • Plan Options

When looking at plans, check to see if:

    • Your doctors and hospitals are in network
    • Your prescriptions are covered
    • The costs fit your budget

    Good to know

All Covered California plans cover the same essential health benefits. The main difference is how much you pay each month and how much you pay when you use care.

Keep your plan or choose a new one.

During renewal, you can keep your current health or dental plan or choose a different plan that better fits your needs and budget. If you don’t do anything, you’ll be re-enrolled into your current plan within 30 days of the renewal deadline, using the most recent household and income information on file. If that information has changed, you should update it in your account. Using outdated information can affect your financial help and your taxes.

If you want to make changes, your account or renewal notice has your deadline and next steps. It will also tell you if your current plan is no longer available and you need to choose a new one.
